Example of a Meal Plan for an 8 Months Old

As a first time mum, I found weaning my baby a real challenge. I felt frustrated when he refused the fish pie, the vegetable medley and the potato mash. It sometimes take an hour just to feed my eight months old. We had also resorted to offering him ice-cream so he has his carrot the next spoonful, tricked into thinking that he is having another spoon of ie-cream. He knows that now and just kept his mouth shut regardless of what we fed him.

A community nursery nurse came round to offer me some help and this is an example of a meal plan my eight months old could follow. He usually sleeps late and wakes up late, hence first meal of the day starts at 9am.

9 am. Porridge made up from milk and finish milk after eating

10.30 am. Snack ripe fruits/ breadsticks/ rice cakes/ yogurt/ pitta bread

12.30 pm. Protein + Carbs + Veg +
Yogurt/ Fruits

Mid afternoon Healthy snacks

Dinner Protein + Carbs + Veg +
Yogurt / fruits/ rice puddings/ low sugar custard + fruits

Milk for bed.

My Christmas Wish List

Dear Santa,

I love, love, love Proskins, especially the latest galaxy print leggings. They also come in other colours like matt black, rich purple, cobalt blue and emerald. I really do fancy having all five different pairs and wear them everyday. I would wear it out, wear it in the house, exercise and I would wear it to sleep. The best thing is, the leggings are made of anti-bacterial material so I won’t have to wash it often and they are very comfortable. Even the British Olympic team wear Proskins! I used to train for long distance running many time a week and completed Cardiff half marathon in 2010 and Wales marathon in 2011. However, I have been slacking after having my baby this year. So, dear Santa, if I could have a Proskins Galaxy print legging, maybe that would give me a push and get me lace up for a run around the park.

I really have a thing for pyjamas. I think changing into pyjamas during bedtime switch you into relax mode. Since young we always have a new pair of pyjamas for each new year and I would like to continue this tradition for baby boy’s very first Christmas! These Hatley pyjamas are so cute and comfy! Going to bed in matching pyjamas like mama’s and papa’s has got to be the most fun thing for a baby. That even got me excited! Hatley black bear pyjamas bottom, Hatley footed coverall baby grow with bear, and Hatley bear on plaid pyjamas bottom are on my wish list. “I want my freedom!” said princess Merida in Brave. Just now don’t turn mummy into a bear.

They said, once you have a baby, you will have no money left to spend on yourself. If you do not have a child, you can afford to go on luxury holiday and own lots of designers handbags and shoes. Well, like all mum and dad knows, having a baby bring them greater happiness and joy than owning all things materIal. Yes, so the rest of my Christmas wish list all goes to my baby boy who loves to play in water. The next Michael Phelps in the making needs Zoggs Zoggy baby wrap swim jacket and Bestway premium baby float for his swimming lessons. Having this Zoocchini Guppy the shark towel would make any mummy as well as baby look forward to swimming all the more. Oo…what about keeping the little hands warm with this blue Joules baby snap mittens after the cold splash in the pool and pack all these treasures in a Trunki Trunkisaurus green luggage. Yes, yes, yes! Swimming is never gonna be the same again!

Dear Santa Surfdome, all these comes to a total of £249.70 after applying the discount code GIFT20. Please, please make my Christmas wish list turn real.

Carrot-Courgette-Sweet Potato with Cheese baby purée

20121203-015026 PM.jpg

Many mums I spoke to said their babies love carrot and sweet potatoes. Not mine. Carrot and sweet potatoes are one of the first food I tried giving to my baby but he has refused them persistently until I add cheese in it. So, I reckon if you are also trying to get your baby to eat carrot and sweet potatoes (as they are rich in vitamins and cheap to buy) , you can try adding cheese in it and your baby might just savour it.

How to:
1) Peel skin off carrot and sweet potatoes and chop into small pieces.
2) Slice courgette into small disc but do not peel skin off as it is rich in vitamin.
3) Use a steamer, boil sweet potato at the bottom and steam carrot and courgette on top. (You can also use a saucepan to simmer the vegetables.)
4) Purée all three vegs in separate bowls.
5) Mix them together to the desired consistency, remember the courgette is more watery compared to carrot and sweet potatoes, add water if needed.
6) Scoop out required amount and freeze the rest.
7) I add cheese (I used Cheddar Cheese) to the purée, microwave it so the cheese melt and wait for it to cool before giving it to my seven months old.

First time mum swimming with baby

Few things I learnt from swimming with my six months old
– Only change your baby into swimming nappy (I bought Boots own brand) in the swimming pool changing room if you do not want the urine leaking into car seats, at the lobby area and et. cetera.
– Apply emollient moderately and at your own risk. My baby has eczema and I applied some ointment on him before going into the pool but realised it was a bit too slippery, so I am going to apply less and be extra careful next time.
– If you have a wet suit, that’s even better as it can keep your baby warm.
– We went into the bigger pool first then into the warmer little pool after. Your baby might feel cold if you do it the other way round.
– Ask the life guard for a baby float as it is much easier than holding your baby at all times.

Nuby for First Time Mum

Door bell ring…

I felt weaning my fussy six months old has been a real challenge lately and was so pleased to receive these bunch of goodies from the lovely people from Nuby this morning. It has given me a lift, to add some fun into my effort to wean my baby boy. Let me share with you some photos of baby D using the different Nuby products.

Nuby’s First Cup has no leak and no spill, perfect for a six months old. It also has a screw on top which makes it easier for me to refill water or fluid. I love seeing my baby boy holding the cup himself and not worry about having to wipe up any spillage after. All these great benefits plus the cute designs too!

The Nibbler by Nuby is a life saver for a first time mum like me. My boy was finally eating his sweet potatoes on his own (under my supervision, of course)! It would have taken me an hour normally. This time, there is no mess as well. Heavenly!

Nuby also sell the Nibbler Nets (pack of 3) separately.

I totally heart the colour and modern design of this Nuby Natural Flex Orthodontic Soother and am glad they are designed to prevent dental problem in the future.

I was also sent a Nuby Snack Keeper which will help toddler to have their own food without pouring them all into the floor first. I will be trying this out in future when my baby boy gets a bit older (or use it to hide my Maltesers from my OH for now ;-))

Our first Buggyfit session

Hi all, how is Monday treating you?

We had a very productive morning so far, going to our first Buggyfit session. I had a very good workout whilst baby had some fresh air in the park.

20121029-034554 PM.jpg

Here is a brief description of how the session was like.

Warm up walking whilst pushing pram, some leg excises

Workout sprinting, squats, stomach workout, running uphill

Cool down stretching

By the end of the one hour session, I was sweating and out of breathe.

If you need some motivation to stop being a couch potato:
I have met a super fit mum who is 27 weeks pregnant and pushing her 2 years old, mum with twins, mums with baby and toddler, new mums 4 months old baby, mum of a toddler who just completed a half marathon. So, we have no more excuse to not exercise, right?

Isn’t that a genius way to incorporate exercise into the week? If you are a new mums like me who is thinking of getting fitter or ridding off some excess pregnancy weight, someone brilliant out there has thought it out for us all. To start off, try to walk in the park or do your shopping with your baby in the pram. If you like a trial Buggyfit session, I got my free pass from Heinz Baby Club. You have to be a member first but signing up is easy. However, remember you have to get green light from your GP before you embark on any exercise after birth, especially if you had a C-section.

Good luck, everyone!
